Puanga Garden 1-30 July
The Puanga Garden installation at Majestic Square is planted as part of our city’s annual Puanga celebrations. The fountain in Majestic Square will be turned off for a month and will be turned into a native garden. Last year’s theme was ‘Mahi Raranga’ or plants used for weaving. This year’s theme is ‘Nga Manu’ or plants that provide food for birds. The plants represent species that will attract native birds to your garden and feed them through the summer so that they remain strong through the winter months. The plants have all been supplied by the Whanganui Prison Nursery who have an extensive selection of native species and the Taup? Native Nursery.
The garden will be installed on Wednesday 1 July, complete with information panels. The public are invited to visit Majestic Square on Thursday 30 July at 12 noon when all the plants will be removed and given, for free, to good homes.
