| About Mainstreet Wanganui |

Mainstreet Wanganui is an Incorporated Society and was established in 1991 to promote and enhance Wanganui's central business district following an injection of capital by the Wanganui District Council to carry out an extensive refurbishment of the CBD. The overall effect created by the refurbishment reflected the Edwardian and Victorian architectural influences and was guided by local architect Bruce Dickson. Gas lamps, bollards, archways, wrought iron garden fencing, seating, garden features, trees and paved footpaths have created a retail and business precinct that is said to have New Zealand's prettiest main street. Businesses and building owners within the CBD area are automatically members of the Mainstreet Wanganui organisation contributing to a levy based on capital rating value. This levy pays for street maintenance, events and promotional activities.
Committees The Mainstreet Wanganui organisational structure is based on an Executive Committee and two Sub-Committees.
